At the core of all our projects is the Integrated Community Development (ICD) Approach—a powerful framework for social innovation rooted in Indigenous wisdom and sustainable practices. This approach is the foundational philosophy that guides every initiative we undertake.
The ICD Approach centers on creating resilient, self-sustaining communities by integrating economic, social, and environmental solutions. The Integrated Community Development Approach has been described as a “framework for social innovation” by Anishinaabe “elder” Wendy Phillips. It’s a holistic, systems-based model that addresses the unique needs of each community while fostering long-term sustainability.
This philosophy is woven through every project we undertake, from economic initiatives to cultural revitalization, ensuring that each effort contributes to the broader vision of a just, sustainable, and thriving future for all.
The Odenaansan Dakonaan Trust Fund — using the Anishinaabe word "dakonaan," meaning "to hold for others," — is a multi-generational initiative focused on restoring and preserving Indigenous cultural institutions, including governance, education, and health.
This fund serves as a governance structure for future generations, enabling them to own shares in community-run social enterprises that utilize the Unified Utility approach, particularly in communities affected by colonialism. Odenaansan Dakonan will hold shares in the social enterprises created through the Odenaansan initiative, creating resources for Indigenous women to lead cultural revitalization efforts free from colonial control.
S.H.A.R.E.Power is an asset management platform designed to support communities in their transition to Zero GHG energy systems, as well as their long-term maintenance. Owned and operated by the community, this platform fosters local economic growth while advancing sustainable energy solutions. S.H.A.R.E.Power introduces a "kit of parts" methodology for sustainable development, offering tailored designs and retrofits to achieve Zero GHG solutions for residential, institutional, and commercial buildings. The methodology is grounded in Greg Allen’s integrated approach to engineering which he has applied since the 1970’s, when he wrote about humanity’s need to eliminate fossil fuel dependency. This has been the focus of his career ever since.
